The monastery of Poblet, founded in the year 1150, belongs to the Cistercian order. It is the largest inhabited Cistercian monastery in Europe and in 1991 was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The monastery, imposing in its beauty, is surrounded by a wall with battlements and two hexagonal towers which guard the Royal Gate. Inside is the royal tomb of the crown of Catalonia and Aragon. Nearby lies the castle of Riudabella, also dating from the 12th century. Standing at an altitude of 600 metres (2,000 feet) on a geological fault, this ancient estate enjoys ideal weather conditions for wine growing. The castle has a select winery which offers tours and wine tasting.

The North Course is one of Port Aventura’s three magnificent golf courses. Designed by Greg Norman, the North Course fits harmoniously into its surroundings which include lagoons, an immense wetland and the former irrigation channel known as the Sèquia Major. With each stroke, the course reveals the natural features of the ground, which Port Aventura Golf set out to take full advantage of by restoring the original landscape. The 18 holes fit in perfectly among the wetlands and the Sèquia Major, listed as an Area of Natural Interest by the Catalan government.
